Jeremy Mann Biography

Jeremy Mann (b. 1979) graduated from Ohio University with a Cum Laude degree in Fine Art-Painting. Afterward, he ventured out to California where he earned his Master’s Degree with Valedictorian honors at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Since then, Mann has garnered substantial attention in the art world. A recently filmed documentary on the artist’s life has gained several prestigious awards, and a massive first volume of paintings, published in 2015, is consistently sought after and very well received. Praised by critics and collectors alike, his paintings have graced the cover of several American Art Collector magazine issues as well as countless other publications world wide.

Executed on medium to large-scale panels, each exciting painting demonstrates the artist's unmistakable style. His techniques are constantly evolving through experimentation and customization of his tools, surfaces, approach and ideas, testing his facilities while honing his unique and personal style.  His marks are immediate and intimate, working with rubber brayers, large custom made scrapers, and anything he can get his hands on. The multitude of solvents and mediums are as integral to the process as the pigmented itself: staining the surface, wiping away, and applying broad, gritty marks, creating, destroying and allowing precision accidents. Mann paints with confidence and flair. He addresses complex compositions with a mature eye and his colors are both vivid and atmospheric.

Living in the Bay Area, Mann paints the cityscapes he meanders through with intimate, dynamic expression. A number of unique compositions are inspired from the city's pavement, the grit and loneliness of a bustling hive of life where reflected street lamps, black swaths of vehicles, dark masses of people and neon signs hover and dance in the rain. In each work, Mann imbues the city with drama, mood, and personality..

Ever ambitious, Mann covers a wide range of subjects beyond cityscapes: interior scenes of lone, young women as striking and restless as the city itself; a bold and intriguing self-portrait, masterful still life paintings, landscapes and plein-airs of peaceful moments of recharge and travel.  Filling sketchbook after sketchbook of observation and ideas, thoughts, vague recollections of dreams and random ramblings, his dynamic documentation of emotions and life expose his personal ideals and growth as an artist.
